18/3/10: Jam Media (founded by BCFE animation graduates John Rice, Alan Shannon ansd Mark Cumberton) have won a Royal Television Society Award for their show ‘Roy’ in the Children’s Drama category (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/17/rts-awards-winners-nominees).
8/3/10: Irish School of Animation graduate Richie Baneham last night picked up an Oscar in the category of Visual Effects at the 82nd Academy Awards for his work on the groundbreaking film Avatar. Congrats to Richie.
1/3/10: On Wednesday 24th February four ISA graduates and animation Oscar nominees (Richie Baneham of Weta Digital, Tomm Moore of Cartoon Saloon, Darragh O’Connell of Brown Bag Films and Nicky Phelan of Brown Bag Films) visited Ballyfermot College. They were joined on the night by another ISA graduate and IFTA nominee Andrew Kavanagh (Founder/CEO Kavaleer Productions). It was a great occasion, attended by an audience of over 150 people. 1/3/10: Kavaleer Productions, founded by ISA graduate Andrew Kavanagh, have won Best Use of Film or Animation as well as the Grand Prix at the 2010 Digital Media Award(http://www.digitalmedia.ie/categories.html) for Hasan Everywhere (which was also directed by Andrew Kavanagh).
23/2/10: On Wednesday 24th February next three animation Oscar nominees (Richie Baneham of Weta Digital, Tomm Moore of Cartoon Saloon and Darragh O’Connell of Brown Bag Films) will visit Ballyfermot College. They will also be joined on the night by Andrew Kavanagh (Founder/CEO Kavaleer Productions). The schedule for the event is as follows:
6pm: Talk by BAFTA award winning visual effects animator and Oscar nominee Richie Baneham (nominated in the category of Visual Effects for 'Avatar')
7.15pm: Panel Discussion: Richie Baneham will be joined on stage by fellow Oscar nominee and IFTA Rising Star award winner Tomm Moore (nominated in the category of Animated Feature Film for Cartoon Saloon’s 'The Secret of Kells') and Oscar nominee Darragh O’Connell (nominated in the category of Short Film (Animated) for Brown Bag Films 'Granny O'Grimms Sleeping Beauty'). The panel discussion will be chaired by Andrew Kavanagh (recent IFTA nominee for Kavaleer Production’s ‘Hasan Everywhere’).
All of the talks and the panel discussion will take place in the Anna Brett Hall, Media Building, Ballyfermot College of Further Education, Ballyfermot Road, Dublin 10.

2/2/10: Three animation graduates of the college have been nominated in three different categories for the 82nd Academy Awards (Oscars): Tomm Moore in the category of Animated Feature Film for 'The Secret of Kells', Nicky Phelan in the category of Short Film (Animated) for 'Granny O'Grimms Sleeping Beauty' and Richard Baneham in the category of Visual Effects for 'Avatar'. The three Oscar nominations for Irish School of Animation graduates is a fantastic achievement. As well as being a great reflection on the directors, animators and companies themselves, it’s also evidence of the standard of the animation courses at Ballyfermot College. It’s noteworthy that the nominees come from three different eras of animation education at the college. Nicky Phelan graduated in 2003, Tomm Moore in 1999 and Richie Baneham in 1994.

3/12/09: ‘Olinda’, a short animation from Irish School of Animation graduate, Bruno Palma, has been selected from over 200 submissions as one of 18 films to be screened as part the Animarte 2009 Festival. Animarte looks to showcase the best animation shorts from around the world and brings them to cities throughout South America. It's a fantastic achievement for Bruno Palma's 'Olinda' to be selected alongside academy award nominee Bill Plympton’s ‘Horn Dog’, as well as short animations from prestigious International animation schools like ESMA School of Arts (Montpellier), Filmakademie (Baden-Württemberg) and Gobelins (Paris). The visit was a huge success with both students and staff attending lectures and workshops with internationally renowned industry professionals such as Mark Walsh (Pixar), Tom Martinek (Industrial Light & Magic), Jason Sadler (Blue Sky Studios) and many more. 25/11/08: BA Animation graduate films ‘Reprieved’ and ‘Border Control’ will be screened at the upcoming PAF 2008 Animation Film Festival in the Czech Republic running from 11 -14 December. The focus of the festival will be on Irish Animation with studios such as Cartoon Saloon, Brown Bag Films and Monster Animation in attendance. Cartoon Saloon will also present the very first public presentation of ‘Brendan and The Book of Kells’ at the festival.
24/11/08: The Irish School of Animation at BCFE has been chosen to represent Ireland at the e-magicians festival held in Valenciennes, France. The festival runs from 25th November 08 to 27th November 08 and is sponsored by the Supinfocom School of Valenciennes and Arles. It includes a presentation by each of the 27 European countries. The Irish School of Animation will make the presentation of Irish Animation which will consist of recent student work and studio work from Cartoon Saloon and Brown Bag studios.

13/11/08: BCFE announces that a reunion of all Animation students from the years 1990 - 2008 will take place in 2009 (date will shortly be confirmed) in the Anna Brett Hall in Ballyfermot College of Further Education.
24/10/08: BA Animation graduate Riana McKeith's final year film has been selected for screening at the Cork Film Festival, the Kerry Film Festival and the Red Wasp Film Festival in Texas.
12/5/08: BCFE Animation Exhibition at Filmbase, Curved Street, Temple Bar from 13th-15th May. The Animation Screening and Launch will take place at 7pm on Thursday 15th May.
11/2/08: ISA graduate Monica Kennedy announced as the winner of an Annie award for Character Animation in a Television Production for ‘El Tigre’.
30/7/07: BA Animation student films 'Mime Vs Mime', 'Room' and I'll C U L8er' have been chosen for screening at the Red Stick International Animation festival in Louisiana. And the films 'Room' and 'Bert' have been short-listed in the best short film category at the Irish Student Media Awards.
15/3/07: BA Animation graduate Loredana Fioretti has been short-listed in the best film category at the KAFI International Festival in Chicago for her final year film 'Air a Danser'.
